Converting bStocks back to stock: the steps, the limits and the fine print
"Backed 1:1" sounds like a promise that you can hand in the token and get a share delivered to your own brokerage account. The official pages describe something narrower. You can switch a bStock back into the same stock at 1:1, with no conversion fee, but the stock you receive is a position on Binance's own stock trading service. The one route out to another broker we found is narrow: the stock trading status FAQ says that once a stock has been fully removed from Binance, you may transfer your holdings if another platform still supports it. Outside that case, the pages we read describe none.
What follows is the conversion as the platform's English pages describe it, read on 26 September 2026: the Academy guide to bStocks, the bStocks FAQ, the August 2026 announcement on third-party tokens, the bStocks landing page and the FAQ for Binance Stock Trading.
What "back to stock" means here
Binance runs two separate things side by side. bStocks are tokens on Binance Spot, issued by BTech Holdings Limited. Stocks sit on what the bStocks FAQ calls the Securities Trading Platform, which Binance's help pages call Binance Stock Trading. The stock trading FAQ says that service is provided by Nest Trading Limited, working with an external brokerage, and that users are the beneficial owners of the shares they buy while a partner brokerage holds them in custody. The brokerage isn't named.
Converting moves your position from the first to the second. The bStocks FAQ says conversion runs through a function called Token Conversion, provided by Nest Trading Limited as dealer and subject to the bStocks Minting and Redemption Product Terms. Its answer to "Are bStocks actual shares?" ends: "you can convert to the underlying share at any time if you want direct ownership." Other lines on the same page qualify "at any time", as the pause section below shows.
You will also see the word redeem. The August 2026 announcement says eligible users "retain the flexibility to redeem their bStocks for the underlying assets, subject to the bStocks Minting and Redemption Product Terms". The FAQ uses it for a different group too: institutional participants who mint or redeem directly through the issuer, at prevailing market prices of the underlying stock. For an ordinary account, the route the guides actually walk through is the [Token Conversion] button.
The steps
The Academy guide writes the steps for converting a stock into a bStock and says the reverse "follows the same steps". Here they are for the reverse direction, with the asset swapped; the swap is our reading of "the same steps". Button names are from the English guide, and your app may lay them out differently.
- Go to your Binance wallet.
- In the asset tab, select the bStock you want to convert.
- Click or tap [Token Conversion].
- Use the pencil icon to edit the amount.
- Review the confirmation pop-up and confirm.
The guide stops at the confirmation. It doesn't say where the result appears or how long processing takes, so we would check the stock position and the bStock balance straight afterwards and keep a note of the amount and time.
Decimal places behave differently in each direction. Stocks on the platform are recorded to up to 9 decimals and bStocks to up to 8. Going from stock to bStock, anything past the 8th decimal can't be tokenized and stays with the issuer as a rounding difference, which the guide says "does not represent a fee or charge". Going from bStock to stock, an 8-decimal amount fits inside 9 decimals, so by the arithmetic nothing should be left over. The guide doesn't address this direction separately.
If the tokens are in your own wallet
Conversion happens inside your exchange account, so tokens in an outside wallet have to come back first. The Academy guide allows deposits on BNB Smart Chain (BSC) only, and warns that sending over any other network may lose the funds.
Getting back in isn't automatic. The disclaimer on the bStocks pages says: "The transfer of tokenized securities back into the CSD environment is subject to conditions and you may be unable to trade, redeem or otherwise deal with the tokenized securities within the CSD environment if such conditions are not fulfilled." The FAQ gives one of those conditions in plain terms. If bStocks are held by, or sent to, an ineligible or prohibited address, the holding "will not be recognized within the Binance CSD environment" and may be frozen or restricted at the smart contract level, and the holder may lose the ability to transfer, trade, convert or redeem. If converting back is your plan, the path with the fewest conditions in the documents is to leave the tokens on the exchange.
What it costs
| Item | What the official pages say | Where |
|---|---|---|
| The conversion itself | 1:1 with no conversion fee | Academy guide; FAQ comparison table; landing page |
| Rounding | Residue past 8 decimals, stock to bStock only; "not a fee or charge" | Academy guide |
| Backing and redemption in general | Subject to fees, taxes, withholding, rounding, operational limits and other factors | FAQ |
| Selling the stock afterwards | A platform fee or a spread on each order, plus other possible costs such as currency conversion, regulatory fees and taxes | Stock trading FAQ |
We have left out amounts on purpose. The stock side publishes its fee levels on its fee page, and they are the kind of number that changes; the guide to what a US stock trade on Binance costs shows where to find them. The August announcement's "0 fees" line appears among the key details of a promotion for third-party tokens that runs to 2026-10-11 23:59 (UTC), so read it as dated.
Pauses, and how long it takes
The Academy guide calls the conversion service "generally available 24/7" and says it may be paused temporarily during corporate action processing or maintenance. The FAQ's table of what to expect for typical corporate actions shows conversion paused on a dividend ex-date, during a stock split and during a reverse split. Its wider wording says deposits, withdrawals, conversions, redemptions and trading may all be paused, delayed or restricted while a corporate action is processed. In the dividend notice of 4 September 2026, for example, conversion between NVDA and NVDAB was suspended from 2026-09-09 23:30 (UTC) until the distribution finished.
None of the pages gives a processing time for a conversion, so don't plan around it being instant.
There is also a timing mismatch worth seeing before you start. Conversion is generally open 24/7; the stock market isn't. Convert on a Sunday and you hold a stock position that can't trade until the next session opens. The stock trading FAQ says a market order is only active during regular trading hours (9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday to Friday excluding US public holidays), limit orders can join extended or overnight sessions depending on what you select, and only selected stocks support 24-hour trading.
Before you convert
What do you want at the end? The answer decides whether converting is the right move at all.
- A vote at the shareholder meeting. The bStocks FAQ says holders get no voting rights and points anyone who needs them to converting into the stock through Binance Stocks Trading. This is the clearest reason to convert.
- Cash. Selling the bStock on Spot gets you out 24/7 without the stock side's hours. We would only convert first if we specifically wanted the stock. What happens to the money after a sale is covered in when you can use or withdraw it.
- The share at another broker. Only one case is described: after a stock is fully removed from Binance, the stock trading status FAQ says you may transfer your holdings if another platform still supports it. For anything else, ask customer support before you count on it.
- Dividends in cash. On the stock side, the stock trading corporate actions FAQ says cash dividends are paid in USDC. See how bStock dividends work for the comparison.
If you arrived holding a third-party stock token instead, the August 2026 announcement lets eligible users deposit certain ones, such as TSLAx on Solana, and convert them into the matching bStock during the promotion. Its disclaimer calls that "not a change of format - it is a change of product", and the deposited tokens can only be held or converted, not traded on Spot.
